Video Works
Thought, video, 4:54 min, 2021
The video shows how I feel when I am alone at the train station in a dark setting. I use the first person view to form the main narrative in the video along with my voice over saying how I feel about the coming train. To show my emotional transformation from insecure to in control, I started with a dark landscape at the train station and lighten up the scene by the arrival of the train. The complete darkness at the end leaves a imaginative space for the viewers to think what would happen next.
Stay Hopeful, video, 4:11 min, 2021
The main theme of the video is self-exploring and hope. The video explores the relationship between a person and her mind. And water is an important medium in the work. The waves of color indicate her mood and also serves as a transition between each clip(mood). When the screen splits into two with the person staring at the camera both standing and under water, it shows her struggle and how she is looking at herself struggling and is trying to figure something out. Being under water usually feels unbreathable and oppressive. However, with the sounds of birds and the scene of people partying, it feels less stressful and creates a comforting atmosphere.
Tell Me How Do You Feel, video, 4:11 min, 2021
The video explored how I experienced the fear of height. The idea came from one time when I am walking on the bridge in the video and felt scared because of standing on such a high place. My friend asked me why I am so scared and I could not describe the feeling. The title is exactly what my friend said. In the video, I used clips I took on the bridge. The work expressed a sense of distance by adjusting the scale and position. When I stood on the bridge, I felt like the scary feeling of height will never end so I did not put a ending like I walked off the bridge. The sound at the end described the sick and dizziness I felt of the height.
